Founded in 2000, the Volunteer Aging Council (VAC) is an avid supporter of Cherokee County Senior Services. The primary program that the VAC supports is the Meals on Wheels program, providing all of the nutritional supplement drinks such as Ensure, Boost and Glucerna for diabetics. Private donations have allowed the VAC to sponsor programs such as the “Last Stop” and safety program, helping seniors to meet their emergency utility and medical prescription obligations as well as safety features, such as ramps and grab bars.
Our mission is to encourage volunteerism, help plan and develop fund raising activities to benefit all of the Cherokee County Senior Service programs and to be ambassadors to the community by bringing awareness of programs and events that benefit Senior Services, their clients and the community.

Meals on Wheels®
VAC helps support this program by buying meal supplements (Ensure) for homebound seniors age 60 and above who are nutritionally at risk. We help fund meal preparation equipment and hot delivery bags for the program. In addition, we also fund the need for frozen meals and shelf staples.

"Last Stop" Emergency Fund
Provides funds for the emergency needs of seniors who have exhausted all other means of assistance. This includes emergency needs such as minor medical costs, dental care, utilities and other unexpected expenses.
Fan & Heater Drive
Provides box fans free of charge to seniors in Cherokee County who do not have air conditioning or who cannot afford the cost associated with operating their air conditioning unit. We also provide portable heaters to our home bound seniors when needed.
Assists homebound seniors with basic chores such as trimming shrubs, changing light bulbs, and other minor routine home maintenance. This program also provides home improvements that make day-to-day life easier and safer for seniors by installing shower grab bars, grip tape, and other items.
Volunteers build ramps for wheelchair-bound seniors, allowing safe entry and exit from their homes. This project also provides for the repair and/or improvement of other household features that enhance the quality of life for the homebound, frail and struggling seniors in Cherokee County.
Make a Difference and help support seniors in our community through monetary donations or the donation of time or needed items.
