When an elderly senior needed help with her home to stop the chronic roof leaks, install a new hot water heater and renovate her bath, allowing her to bathe safely, she approached the Cherokee County Senior Center. Due to special circumstances, she was not eligible for the traditional aid programs available in the County and that’s when the Volunteer Aging Council was called for help.

After making a preliminary evaluation, a substantial part of her roof was replaced, stopping the anxiety of not knowing how much water was entering her living room every time it rained. From that point, the project developed into a more comprehensive renovation by installing new water/dryer hookups, installing a new out swing door for the bath, rebuilding the front porch, installing a new ramp at the front of the house and finishing a partially completed extra bedroom with ceiling insulation, paint, carpet and a fully serviced air conditioner.
