The Cherokee County Volunteer Aging Council (VAC) raises funds to benefit all of Cherokee County Senior Services' programs, and to help meet seniors' needs that are not currently covered by programs already in place. These funds come from grants, donations and fund raising events, and all funds raised stay in Cherokee County assisting those seniors who are most in need. The VAC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and all contributions are tax deductible.
OUR PROGRAMS
MEALS ON WHEELS
The VAC donates supplemental funds to the senior center which provides and delivers a hot, well balanced meal each weekday to homebound seniors. Frozen, shelf staples and meal supplements are also provided when needed.
EMERGENCY FUND
This is the 'Last Stop' fund used only when all other means of assistance have been exhausted. The VAC helps needy seniors with minor medical, dental, and utility bills and other unexpected expenses.
CHORE PROGRAM
Volunteers assist homebound seniors with basic chores such as trimming shrubs, changing light bulbs and other minor routine home maintenance.
FAN DRIVE
Each summer the VAC purchases box fans which are distributed to seniors who do not have air conditioning or cannot afford to run it.
ALZHEIMER'S PROGRAM
Volunteers or funds may be provided to perform minor home improvements designed to make life easier and safer for dementia patients and their caregivers. These might include shower and grab bars, grip tape and other home safety features.
FOOD CLOSET
Funds provide an ongoing supply of shelf staples and are given to seniors who are running low on canned goods, rice, pasta, etc.
RAMP PROJECT
Volunteers build ramps for wheelchair bound seniors, allowing safe entrance and exit from their homes. Local donations and fund raisers pay for the supplies.
